Awesome meetups in Cambridge

14/6/2018

Not another networking group...To be honest with you I’m not a huge fan of the term networking.  In fact, over the past few years I’ve found tradtional business networking groups totally disengaging and I purposefully avoid any business networking event that requires you to sign-up exclusively, attend regularly, exchange business cards or make a sale every session.  Or the type of business networking, where I find myself pinned to a corner (desperate to escape, but far too polite) by someone purely interested in me, myself and I. I don’t know about you, but I really don’t find these types of business networking groups productive, stimulating or comfortable and I rarely gain or give anything positive as a result.

Thankfully, there are a few awesome people in Cambridge, who like me see networking (if I must use the word) for what it is - an informal, friendly and relaxed way to meet and chat to open-minded, passionate and engaging freelancers and business owners who are far more interested in sharing their knowledge, learning from others and having a good time than trying to sell you something you don't want or need.

Cambridge Marketing Meetup

There are a few excellent professional meetups in Cambridge that I would recommend, and if you haven’t already done so, you really need to check them out. A favourite of mine is the Cambridge Marketing Meetup – pretty much as the name suggests – this is an awesome monthly meet up for marketing professionals in Cambridge, run by the very engaging Joe Glover, who if you haven’t meet yet, you should. Plus, the event is free, has great speakers, food is provided and you can drink beer – what’s not too like.

Another good meetup is The Cambridge Grub Club who run social networking events for food and drink professionals to chat, collaborate and network – all whilst enjoying some great grub!. They meet every month at various independent venues around Cambridge and attract some of the most influential guest speakers from the UK food and drink industry.

And if it’s social media you’re interested in then it has to be the Cambridge Social Media Meetup run by the very lovely Lenka Koppová.  Again, this is a monthly meetup for anyone wanting to learn more about social media and get to know other freelancers and business owners in Cambridge.  Admittedly, I’ve yet to make it to one of Lenka’s meetups, however having worked with Lenka on a social media strategy for one of my clients she is well worth getting to know.

Happy chatting, learning and engaging people!
